MONTROSE BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONAL
WOMEN’S CLUB
APRIL, 2008 NEWSLETTER

**********************************************************************************************
Dear members and friends,

Our April meeting is set for 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 9, at the Montrose House, hosted by the Individual Development and Young Careerist Committee of Fran Allen and Liz Janoski.

This month we'll welcome Martha Cuomo of the Women's Resource Center, Montrose, as our speaker. We're collecting items for a Spring Shower Basket for the Women's Resource Center Safe House in Scranton.
Items needed include:
Dish sets, kitchen utensils, dish towels, sheet sets, comforters, quilts, curtains, blinds, kitchen/bathroom wastebaskets, brooms, mops, vacuums, buckets, (all items must be new), cleaning supplies, laundry detergent and toiletries.
Due to funding cuts, the WRC is also in need of specific books, or Borders or Barnes & Noble gift cards.
Titles include: 'Getting Free, by Ginny NiCarthy (ISBN # 1-58005-122-7); Outgrowing the Pain, by Eliana Gil, PhD (ISBN # 0-440-5006 -0); Why Does He Do That?, by Lundy Bancroft (ISBN #978-0425191651), When Dad Hurts Mom, by Lundy Bancroft (ISBN # 0-399-15110-9) and Quest for Respect by Linda Braswell (ISBN # 978-0934793445).
Our fund raising Committee is working hard on new ideas. Our bus trip had to be cancelled for lack of participation. A joint Bingo effort with Springville Vol. Fire Co. is being considered.
We need some suggestions for bus trips. Where do you want to go, or think others may be interested in going? The Cider Mill Playhouse is offering 'Love and Anger', and 'Annie Get Your Gun' in the coming months. The Music Box Theater in Swoyersville is offering 'The Great American Trailer Park Musical', 'The Music Man,' and Sweeny Todd' in 2008.

The club will be holding a bake sale again this year during Community Sales Day, May 24, in Montrose. Do members want to have a booth at the Springville Womens' Club Bazaar at Elk Lake in November?

I'll have a report for you on District 8 Spring Conference, which is Saturday, April 5.

The Red Purse raffle was won by Cindy Reynolds, of Kingsley. She bought her ticket from our best seller, Vivian Bolles.

Connie Stevens continues keeping our website updated. Information for the Equal Pay Day Rally in Harrisburg, April 22 can be found there. Equal Pay Day is held annually in April to signify the point into a year that a woman must work to earn what a man made the previous year.

April 22 is also the PA Primary election. Everyone please be sure to vote. It's our strongest voice!

Committee chairs are finishing up contest entries, and this year we'll be able to enter the website category, which is judged only at state level. I know we're competitive in that area!

Ann Fitzgerald will be calling for dinner reservations for April 9. The meal is $12 per person. If you must cancel your reservation, call me, Susan, at my work number, 278-6397, ext. 226, by 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9.

Please bring a friend along to our April meeting - or any woman you may be acquainted with that just may be waiting for an invite- you never know until you ask!

THANK YOU ALL FOR BEING A PART OF MONTROSE BPW!

Susan
