Montrose BPWC Monthly Newsletter

September 3, 2008

Ladies, it is hard to believe that another BPW year is upon us.  My summer just flew by.  While some of you took a vacation from BPW during the summer months, several did not, and to them I give my most sincere thanks.

Bringing aboard new members has its own rewards with new and refreshing ideas and enthusiasm.  Our trip to Lake Seneca was a huge success (2 busses) and Bingo has proved to be all that Ann Silletto said it would be. It is a lot of work and a time commitment, but I am happy to say that our bank accounts are healthier than they have been in many, many years. (She told us so!)  Connie Stevens has designed a beautiful and well-maintained web-site.  In fact, it won 1st place as the best web site at the State Convention in June.  Keep a check for info and activities (www.bpwmontrose.org)

State Convention was once again a fun and informative experience. Joyce and Sue had another excellent adventure, this time NOT using the GPS unit!

Our own Susan Gesford is 1st Assistant District 8 Director, so we better save up for the coming installation party in a couple years as she becomes the District Director.  She will fill us in on the issues and activities of the coming year.

2008-2009 is shaping up as a busy and productive year for us.  I know several of you have decided not to renew your membership this year, I am asking that you reconsider. If you find that you are unable to rejoin, please remember that you are always welcome at meetings and any other activities we have planned.

We have had to change our meeting place. September 10th meeting will be held at J & J’s at the top of the avenue (formerly the Maple leaf) at 6:30 pm.  Cost is $14.00 (which is what I expected wherever we met).  They are opening the restaurant just for us. If we can bring in more people for dinner, the cost will go down. The meeting will basically be a planning meeting, but we may also have a speaker (not confirmed).

The Woman of the Year banquet will be here before we know it.  Ruth Wilmarth is an excellent choice, and is apparently very appreciative of the honor bestowed upon her.  She is also doing a lot of the hands on work herself...  I hope all of you will turn out to support her and the club.  October 2nd at the Bible Conference at 6:00 pm is the date.

Fall Conference is at Keystone College on October 4th.  Officers should be planning to attend, plus any other available members.  Anyone who has not been to district conference should not pass up this opportunity when it is this close.  It is absolutely the best way to begin learning the purpose and mission of BPW.

Our largest undertaking will be moving our bingo game to the South Montrose Conservation Club.  The Executive Committee met and agreed this is our best fund raiser to date, and although it will be a great deal of work, we hope all of you will support it.  For those who cannot actually work at Bingo, we can use your support in several other ways:  baking, cooking, donating food items for dinner, working other fundraisers to free up the bingo workers. (For instance, the Elk Lake Bazaar and our bake sale are the day before a Sunday afternoon bingo), so if we can count on some of you to work the bazaar and others to help with bingo we should do well at both events.  Bingo will be the 1st and 3rd Sundays in October and November with doors open at noon for dinner and games starting at 2:00 pm.  The Conservation Club has given us a much reduced rent to start with.  All profits go to BPW.   The last Bingo game will be the first Sunday in December with resumption planned in March or April 2009.

Other topics of interest this year will center about our partnership with the Susan G. Koman Foundation, the American Heart Association,

returning Women Veterans

and I hope an interesting and motivating club project for the year.  More details to follow.

Thank you in advance for your support and efforts in making Montrose one of the most active clubs in the district.
